Inheritance Series (Encaustic)

This encaustic series, "Inheritance", is based upon the jewelry I inherited from my late grandmother, Anne Larsen. It is not so much the jewelry that is significant, but the larger, deeply subconscious inheritance that one receives from their family. I specifically chose the encaustic medium for it's archival qualities. For centuries, beeswax has been used as a means of preservation as it never decays. These keepsakes speak at a far greater level than mere objects, but of blood, history, memory and of course, time. The objects are able to speak and create a narrative in their new form.
